About the Immigration Judge

Attorney General William P. Barr appointed Colin P. Johnson as an immigration judge in March 2020. Judge Johnson earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1998 from Hamline University and a Juris Doctor in 2001 from Hamline University School of Law. From 2007 to 2020, he served as an assistant chief counsel, Office of Chief Counsel, Office of the Principal Legal Advisor, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Department of Homeland Security, in Fort Snelling, Minnesota. From 2010 to 2012, he served as a special assistant U.S. attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota, in St. Paul. From 2001 to 2007, he served as a judge advocate for the 1st Infantry Division, at Fort Riley, Kansas. There he served as both a criminal prosecutor and defense counsel and completed a one-year deployment to Iraq from 2003 to 2004. Judge Johnson is a member of the Minnesota State Bar.
